Ryder Cup Preview
Golf teams from Europe and the USA with battle it out for the Ryder Cup from Friday September 30th to Sunday October 2nd 2016 at Hazeltine National Golf Club, Chaska, Minnesota, USA. The course is an immaculate 7,628 yard 18-hole par 72 Championship course that spans rolling hills, mature woods, picturesque lakes and prairies to provide a great golfing challenge for the players this week.
The Ryder Cup is one of the world’s greatest events with 24 of the best golfers from Europe and the United States going head-to-head in match play golf.
Each team has 12 Players and on Friday and Saturday there will be 4 foursome matches and 4 four-ball matches, followed by 12 singles on Sunday, the final day.
The European team is captained by Darren Clarke and consists of the following players:
Vice captains: Thomas Bjorn, Padraig Harrington, Paul Lawrie, Ian Poulter and Sam Torrance. Players: Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Thomas Pieters, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Andy Sullivan, Lee Westwood, Danny Willett and Chris Wood.
Darren Clarke believes his rookies are the foundation of European teams for years to come and said: “We’ve got six rookies on our team this week. They are probably going to be the future of the Ryder Cup going forward and I feel very fortunate that they are here on this team.”
The USA team is captained by Davis Love III and consists of the following players:
Vice captains: Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman and Steve Stricker. Players: Rickie Fowler, J. B. Holmes, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Ryan Moore, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Brandt Snedeker and Jimmy Walker.
With Europe winning the Ryder Cup on the last 3 occasions Davis Love III and his team have their work cut out. Love III said: “If we keep losing then the American fans are going to say to heck with that, we’ll go and watch something else.”
