Eagle Putt Puts Hend At Top Of Leaderboard
Scott Hend of Australia hit his second shot, an 8 iron, to 5 feet, and slotted the putt for eagle on 18 to complete a round of 73 and finish at -9 for three rounds to take the lead in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and said talking about the 18th “Yeah, it was a nice bonus.”
Hend, who only had 1 birdie in his round today and Masters winner Danny Willett were both struggling to find their form in the final pairing and this allowed the field to start closing in on them with only one round left to play.
At one stage Tyrrell Hatton from England looked set to hold the lead going into the final day when his round of 66, that included 7 birdies put him in the lead, finishing at -8. Hatton said of his round: “Very special, my lowest round here, so very happy.”
Lee Westwood, started to put it all together today with a solid round of 68, that included 4 birdies and 14 pars. Korean Y E Yang, who was leading yesterday let it slip with a round of 75 that included 5 bogeys and finished at -7 together with Westwood, but is only 2 off the pace.
The following players are all tied on -6: Julien Quesne, Chris Wood, Thomas Aiken, Martin Kaymer, Jaco Van Zyl and Danny Willett.
Danny Willett had a disappointing round for him today taking 76 in a round that included 5 bogeys.
Martin Kaymer shot his 3rd consecutive round of 70 today dropping 2 shots on the back 9 and is only 3 shots off the pace, whilst Bernd Weisberger shot 71 to finish at -1.
There are 26 players within 7 shots of the lead and so there is lots to play for out there tomorrow in the final round. This is one round of golf I am really looking forward to, how about you?
